AIR 27/2742 ORB for 23 Squadron, RAF Coltishall, Norfolk
Notes by Paul Fuller
The August 1956 entry begins with ...
"1. The main commitment of the squadron this month was
exercise 'Fabulous' at Royal Air Force Waterbeach. Due to poor
serviceability, local flying limitations and adverse weather
conditions, relatively few hours were flown whilst on detachment.
["local flying limitations" referred to complaints
about noise from local residents, not AP]
"2. During the last week of the month air-to-air firing
programme was carried out. Due to the lack of modified aircraft,
few actual sorties were flown.
"3. The Squadron took part in two other exercises:
(a) Rats/terriers - in Terriers role
(b) Ciano - a simulated bomber force.
"4. On the 29th of the month a team of instructors arrived
from Colerne to give continuation training on A.I. Mk. 21 to the
Navigators.
"5. A varied ground training programme was
carried out."
As with 74 Squadron at Horsham St Faith 141 Squadron were also
involved in "cine and pilot and navigation training".
And as with 74 Squadron the ATC GCA was modified and the UHF
installed by No. 90 Group.
