Star Legends

Your earthcast eyes behold
The dawn, a painted show;
But the morning of the world,
Creation's afterglow,
Is in my eye!
How can I cry
For you? How can I cry?

Bound upon the turning wheel of time,
A child in the shackles of his fears,
Soon to his feet must Adam climb
And shoulder the burden of his years.

Oh, Children of Eden, wake from your slumbers,
Walk from the Garden with pride in your eye;
Bridle the wild wind and rein-in the thunder
And ride for the fields of the sky!

Tell to me Star Legends, woven of wonders,
Sing to me spell-weaving songs of the sky;
Tell to me stories of heavenly glories
And visions of far days when infinite starways we fly!

A painted toy sun beams
To warm your nursery world,
While far above your dreams
Unnumbered suns are hurled
Through endless night!
How can I fight
For you? How can I fight

For you and your cities that fall in a day
For you and your cares that are dust and decay
For you and your lives that are blowing away?

The Earth may bleed on the blade of a comet scythe,
Or blaze to ash in the flash of a nova sun;
Space may be laced by the webs of nebulae,
The noon sun set and Earth's last day be done.

So what should I care for your moments of laughter,
Hours of labour or minutes of pain?
My heart is the heart of tomorrow and after -
The future will not come again!

So tell to me Star Legends, woven of wonders,
Sing to me spell-weaving songs of the sky;
Tell to me stories of heavenly glories
And visions of far days when infinite starways we fly!
