23 Squadron diary

Entry for Monday/Tuesday 13/14 August 1956:

The GCA became a G.C.I. and several attempts were made to intercept the ‘object’ but as it was standing ... it was most difficult and nothing was seen by either of the crews, and it was later decided that the object must have been a balloon.

“On being scrambled after this target Flying Officer Arthur lost his wing tanks. It is thought that this was due to a faulty switch-guard...”
